The neighborhood of Stapleton was a product of the complete overhaul and tear down of what used to be Denver’s primary airport. When
Denver International Airport (DIA) was being constructed and announced as Denver’s new primary airport, there was no longer a need for Stapleton International Airport. In addition, the airport was not in the best condition and residents of Park Hill were growing angry because of the noise of the planes. It was decommissioned in 1995 and as DIA was being built, plans to demolish and rebuild the Stapleton area were being put in place. Today, the land that the Stapleton International Airport was on is now home to a large shopping and residential area.
A planned community at the site of the former Stapleton Airport, Stapleton is a green community that even offers chicken coops as an option for new construction homes.
