History / Description

Douglas County is one of the original 17 counties that belonged to the Colorado Territory, as established by the Colorado Territorial Legislature on November 1, 1861. The county was named in honor of U.S. Senator Stephen A. Douglas of Illinois.

Loan tree is also the host of the university of Phoenix’s campus.

Green areas are a constant in Douglas County. We have to mention here: Castlewood Canyon State Park, Chatfield State Park and Roxborough State Park. Add to this that parts of the county lie within the Pike National Forest and are crossed by the historic South Platte Trail, American Discovery Trail, Colorado Trail, Devils Head National Recreation Trail, Highline Canal National Recreation Trail, Platte River Greenway National Recreation Trail, Ridgeline Open Space Trail and you will feel the great outdoor call. For outdoor lovers the County will offer Rueter–Hess Reservoir, that will provide significant recreation including fishing, hiking, and non-motorized boating when filled.

Cities in Douglas County include: part of Aurora and Littleton and Castle Pines (Castle Pines North), Lone Tree and Castle Rock. This towns have desirable residential areas, shopping centers, but also lovely restaurants, coffee shops and bars for all tastes and preferences.
