The Highlands neighborhood in Denver was the long standing home to many different immigrants. Today you can still find those traces of heritage at the restaurants in the neighborhood. Highlands is Denver’s latest “it” neighborhood.
The Highlands refers to two separate neighborhoods, Highland and West Highland, and is within minutes from the hustle and bustle of Downtown Denver. To differentiate, Highland is also known as “LoHi” or Lower Highland. Northwest of Denver’s central business district, LoHi is generally north of Speer Boulevard, south of 38th Avenue, east of Federal Boulevard and northwest of I-25. West Highland is, appropriately, just west of Highland, with Federal Boulevard being the dividing street. Other boundaries are Sheridan Boulevard to the west, 29th Avenue to the south and 38th Avenue to the north.
Combined, the Highlands offer some of the most walking-friendly residences in the Denver area, with over three restaurants, bars or coffee shops within a five minute walk. If you would like to hear live music, you can find many music venues in this area. Most of the commerce in the area is from locally-owned, independent businesses, contributing to the neighborhood feel. Attractions in the area include shopping, a wide variety of restaurants as well as pubs and specialty drink destinations such as wine, sake and martini bars. The Navajo Street Art District, located on Navajo Street between 36th and 37th, offers 7 galleries which participate in First Friday, a city-wide program that keeps galleries open late for browsing, food, drink and fun on the first Friday of each month. Charming bungalows surround Highlands Square at 32nd and Lowell. If you are looking for a trendy, upcoming place to live within minutes of Downtown Denver, look no further than the Highlands neighborhood.
Highlands is home to Denver Public Schools.
