Tonight is New Year’s Eve and it means not only a time to look back, but also a time to look forward. The great thing about the start of New Year is that it’s kinda like a “do over.” Do you remember when we were kids and when we didn’t like the outcome of some game we were playing, we instantly shouted, “DO OVER! DO OVER!” so that all of our friends knew that whatever just happened didn’t count? Of course, the last year counts; but in the coming New Year, we do have a chance to do many “do overs.” In fact, as we begin 2014, there are many prayers and wishes on my list. Here are a few of them:

I pray…

… that this year will be a balanced market for real estate. Not a full-blown seller’s market or buyer’s market; but a well-balanced fair market for all participants.

… that we’ll inch just a little closer to a “common sense” approach in the lending environment. I am not in favor of loosening lender guidelines to the point of 2003-2006, but I do think that lenders need to make more common sense decisions in the underwriting process. It will not only help more people qualify and get a loan, but it will also create more business for everyone involved without exposing them to high risk loans.

… that buyers and sellers continue to understand and practice the word “compromise.” When a sale ends up in a win-win situation for both parties and the transaction went smooth, everyone benefits. Not to mention that it adds a few years to my life.

… that we don’t have a crisis in Washington every six weeks. This causes too much volatility in the market and has probably been the single biggest reason why the economy takes one step forward and one step backward every three months.

… that the Federal reserve starts to tail off quantitate easing WITHOUT telling the public at the top of their lungs and scaring interest rates into the 6% range.

… that God continues to bless us, our team, our business, and our clients whom we are so thankful for.

What are your 2014 prayers and wishes? We would love to hear from you. Happy New Year and May God bless you, your family, and friends with good health. – Dan
