Every year the Colorado Dream House Team picks a charity in which we can give back to our local community. This year we have decided to partner with The Life Center in Littleton.
A few weeks back we (the Colorado Dream House Team) volunteered at the Life Center Food Pantry helping seniors and others get much-needed food. We were all so deeply moved by what we saw that day that we decided we could not sit on the sidelines. All of us at the Colorado Dream House Team decided we wanted to help this organization be the hands and feet of God.
All we read these days in the news is how great the economy is, how many more people have jobs and how great everything is. Well, it’s not great for everyone! I was blown away about how many people are in need. The Life Center Pantry is open for two hours on Tuesday night and two hours on Wednesday morning. In four short hours over 150 families passed through all needing basic food essentials. When the Life Center surveyed the seniors in and around Littleton asking them about their needs they talked about two things: One, their expenses are rising faster and faster each day while they remain on a fixed income. They are running out of money to even buy food. Many of the elderly have no family and all report being extremely lonely. So, the Life center is helping the seniors with food or shelter if needed. They are also planning activity days for them where they look forward to participating and fellowship with others. In addition to the food pantry, the life center acts as a shelter in the winter giving the homeless a place to get out of the cold. They provide meals to seniors, offer education like GED courses for young people, English classes, computer classes, legal counseling, and so much more. The Life Center is a blessing, to say the least. But they are just one place, one organization and the needs are greater than they can handle. That’s why we want to help, and we are asking you to partner with us.
Partnering with The Life Center
From October 5th through November 7th we want to see how much food we can collect for the Life Center Food Pantry. When we first started talking about this I thought it would be cool if we could collect enough food to fill two pickup trucks. Then I went to the Life Center and I heard God tell me that my goal wasn’t big enough! Our human nature is to pick human size goals, but our God is greater and bigger to do more than we can imagine. God said, “Dan try a big, audacious and hard to believe goal and watch me work!” So, I decided let’s try to fill a U-Haul truck full of food for the Life Center.
So that’s what we are going TO DO! Will you help us? We will even come to your home to pick up nonperishable items or you can stop by our office and put it in our donation bin. Our address is 6300 S Syracuse Way Suite 150 Centennial, Legacy Cascades Building. Our office hours are Monday through Friday 8 am to 5 pm and Saturdays 8am-2pm. We will collect all the food through November 7th and then deliver the full U-Haul truck on November 10th just in time for Thanksgiving. Below is a list of items the Life Center will need for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
