Hidden Gem

Every once in a while I run across a home that is just too awesome not to tell everyone about it. This home won the “Natural Dream Home of the Year” and “Built Green Home of the Year” titles by Mountain Living Magazine, but that’s not what makes it so great.

As you can see from the picture, it looks like a rustic mountain home, but when you walk inside, it has some of the finest finishes that I have seen in luxury living. From 100-year-old recycled timbers to solar panels, from soapstone countertops to worry-free exterior logs, each aspect of this grand estate has been hand-selected with the most thoughtful and diligent care. The use of so many materials inside, like the interior woodwork or the exquisite tile work in every bathroom, will simply blow you away.

It was built by a corporation called EverlogSystems. They specialize in making log homes with concrete. I challenge anyone to look at these logs and tell me that they do not look like real timber. It’s simply amazing. More importantly, they are incredibly energy-efficient and the home won’t burn down. EverlogSystems is known, as I mentioned above, for building a “green,” energy-efficient home. In fact, this home is so “green” that they commissioned a company to do an “energy star” report on how much the utilities would cost to operate it. The home got the highest rating at five-plus stars and it was estimated that its monthly utility bill would only be around $300 a month to operate a 10,000 sq. ft. home. Wow!

The home was finished in 2009 and has never been lived in. It sits on the Bear Dance Golf Course, on three acres with amazing views in just about every direction. I could go on and on about the heated stamped concrete decks, the incredible downstairs recreation area, bar, wine cellar, theater, pool room or spa, but you really need to see this for yourself. The company still owns the house and has been maintaining it all along. So you may be asking yourself, “Dan, if it’s so great, why has it not sold?” Simple: not a lot of people know about it since it is just south of Castle Rock in Larkspur, Colorado, and not everyone these days can afford a four-million-dollar-home. If you can afford it or want to see if you can make a deal on it, make sure that you put 995 Longbow Place on your “must see list.”
